Named after Park Street, Calcutta’s most cosmopolitan thoroughfare during the late nineteenth century, this cane settee reflects the refined domestic culture of the British colonial elite in India. Park Street was home to merchant residences, clubs, and drawing rooms where Anglo-Indian furniture balanced European formality with climatic intelligence.

The settee is constructed in teak, with natural cane seat and back - materials chosen for durability and ventilation in tropical interiors. The gently scrolled arms, turned legs, and restrained floral crest rail draw from late Victorian and Edwardian British furniture idioms, adapted by Indian craftsmen with exceptional skill. Brass corner brackets reinforce the frame, a characteristic feature of colonial furniture designed for longevity and travel.

Intended for verandas, reception halls, and shaded drawing rooms, this piece embodies a hybrid aesthetic: British proportion and etiquette softened by Indian materials and artisanal execution. The Park Street Colonial Cane Settee is a faithful representation of an Anglo-Indian furniture tradition that emerged between approximately 1880 and 1920 - functional, elegant, and deeply rooted in place.
