Period Inspiration:

In the quiet splendour of 18th-century English country houses, particularly estates such as Bourne Park, where cultivated taste met artisanal mastery - Rococo carving found its distinctly British voice. The Bourne Park Rococo Table stands as an homage to that heritage: a sculptural expression of the English Rococo, where asymmetrical exuberance softened beneath the natural restraint of Georgian classicism.

Hand-carved floral sprays animate the apron, unfurling in the spirited idiom popularized by Thomas Chippendale’s Director of 1754. Each petal and leaf recalls the woodland motifs favoured by English workshops, which translated continental Rocaille forms into something earthier, more tactile, and more intimately tied to the oak and walnut forests of Britain.

The cabriole legs - anatomically poised, almost animate - terminate in refined claw-and-ball feet, a hallmark borrowed from earlier Queen Anne influences but richly reinterpreted during the Rococo period. Foliate carvings crown the knees, shaped with the fluidity that defined the mid-18th-century shift toward organic ornamentation.

Neither ostentatious nor austere, this table embodies the balance that English carvers achieved when adapting French Rococo principles to British sensibilities. It is a piece that speaks in the language of history: a domestic sculpture honouring the workshops, patrons, and country-house culture that produced some of the most beloved furniture forms of the Georgian world.
